about Dan Birt (UK):  By day I'm a television editor. By night I'm a struggling film maker, writer and producer.

career highlights:  Producing an award winning short film 'Collar'; producing two broadcast adverts for Mark Billingham's last two paperback releases and editing a wine series which got some good reviews.

In my time working in a news studio I shot some of the news inserts for Shaun of the Dead and have worked with David Attenborough, Ian McEwan and err...C-3PO.

which creative people, places and things on your radar right now?

people: I am currently obsessed with the novels of Haruki Murakami and as a result - Japan. I love his fascination with the unconscious and all things surreal.

things: I thought There Will Be Blood by Paul Thomas Anderson was one of the greatest films of the last ten years. I hate to say it but he could be the new Kubrick.  I also loved the recent exhibitions of Bacon and Rothko.

what’s your favourite daydream? Quite simply, imagining film plots and television shows I would like to make.

what was the last rule you broke? That would be telling. Without being specific, the last few films I've worked on involved exterior scenes where we had no permission to film. We just did it guerilla style whilst constantly looking over our shoulder.

if you could ask a question of someone you respect, who and what would you ask?
