about Bali Engel (France/UK):  I am an animator/illustrator from Paris, France based in London studying at the Royal College of Art and building my portfolio.

which creative people, places and things on your radar right now?

people: I am a great fan of Igor Kovalyov - he is a fantastic animator! He is the reason I got into animation in the first place - his world is so strong and strange; there is no work like his. I also like more mainstream illustrators like Tom Gauld - I love the comics he has released with Simone Lia; they are hilarious and absolutely beautiful.

places: I  go a lot to the BFI - I am a huge film geek - I love hanging out at the cinema.  It’s in a great  location and the library is fantastic, they have absolutely everything. I’ve always wondered how big their "secret" basement is - it seems like they have everything that has ever been written on cinema down there.

things: I have recently discovered a great program called Phun to mess about with animation that works with real physics - it’s great fun (for real animation enthusiasts only, but still fantastic).

what’s your favourite daydream? Flying as if air is water.

what was the last rule you broke? Climbing over fences into private property to get footage for a film.
