about Rasha Eleyan (Jordan/Singapore): I like to paint.
career highlights: Exhibiting around Jordan, Rome and Singapore in both solo and group exhibitions; and character designing and illustrating a series of Arabic story books about “Bahia the little farmer”
that are being animated into a cartoon series based on the original book’s illustrations.
which creative people, places and things on your radar right now?
people: Romero Britto - simply because his work feels to me like a more current and contemporary Roy Lichtenstein painting and I happen to be a big fan of Lichtenstein. My work is undeniably influenced by his.
places: Art auction houses - I like to watch people and see how they act around art whether they’re art lovers, investors, collectors or all of the above, and it doesn’t hurt that there’s a lot of art to look at the same time.
things: iTunes U art and culture podcasts - you can download interviews and art news onto your phone; it’s fantastic.
what's your favourite daydream? To be able one day to free myself of any outside influence (social, commercial, religious...) when creating a painting.
what was the last rule you broke? Nothing worth mentioning!
if you could ask a question of someone you respect, who and what would you ask?
T. S. Elliot: "How did you manage to describe the characters of cats with such genius?"
In 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats', each cat character in the poems very much reminds you of a cat you have met in your life. I’m just hoping that when I write a children's book one day, my characters will be as deeply thought out and developed.
