about James Bent (UK/NZ/Singapore): Photographer and writer running the daily street fashion photography blog: Outré.
career highlights: You know, I'm not sure I have a career. I have passions. And I've had a lot of jobs and been to lots of places. I think the highlight was sleeping rough and walking around Spain when I was about twenty four.
I realized that so long as I have food, drink, basic amenities and a place to sleep, then that is enough to live at least. So why have worries? That was the start of my passions or, I should say, the freedom to let those passions live. I guess that was the start of me wanting to do things like this, like taking photographs and writing about people.
which creative people, places and things on your radar right now?
people: Scott Schuman, The Facehunter, and Rei Shito.
places: I'm going to Shanghai in April, Tokyo in May and then, who knows? I'd like to go back to New York this year.
things: getting more daily photographs and looking forward to Singapore Fashion weeks/events.

what's your favourite daydream? Ha, I always say: work a four hour day from 10am-2pm, with a 2 hour lunch break in between. I mean, I have to do some work, but 2 hours would be intense and just enough.
what was the last rule you broke? I think I'm a little bit reckless by nature. As in, I obviously care about things, but at the same time I don't really care in some ways. If I want it, I do it. For instance, spending "a lot" on my Canon 5d mark II + 50mm f1.4 lens, even though I haven't made a cent from photography yet and even though it's going to take a long time to pay it off. However, it helps me to take the best photos and that makes me happy.
if you could ask a question of someone you respect, who and what would you ask?
If I could jump forward to the point where my life is about to end, I'd ask myself, "Did I do alright?" I think that would be the ultimate test. I think the response would be, "Alright so far".
