MeshMinds at the International Conference on Youth, Ocean and SDG14
This week, MeshMinds’ CCO Kay Vasey attended the International Conference on “Youth, Ocean and SDG14”, that was held from 1 to 5 July 2019. The conference aimed at raising awareness on the crucial need for the active engagement of youths in enabling the SDGs, particularly SDG 14: to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
The event saw over a 100 young people convening to share, discuss and develop innovative projects on ocean issues including marine pollution, climate change, and sustainable blue economies. These guests came from a myriad of backgrounds and nationalities, including youth advocate groups, representatives from NGOs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), UN agencies, academia, corporate agencies, and related stakeholders.
At the conference, Kay was a panelist that helped facilitate discussion around the importance of technology and education as the key drivers of sustainable development. The potential for technology driving impact was highlighted in the conference, as technology enabled messages to be transmitted in a more meaningful, engaging ways that could reach a wider audience base over traditional print.
