(PLASTIK)

A child looks through a telescope she made out of a plastic bottle and experiences glimpses of our plastic-polluted future.

Plastic waste is choking our seas and coasts, threatening ecosystems and livelihoods in South-East Asia.

Plastic pollutes our soil, our waterways, our ocean, and our food. It directly harms marine life, causes billions of dollars of damage to shipping, fishing and tourism, and threatens our health.

The most severe impacts of environmental degradation will be felt by young people, future generations, and disadvantaged groups. Preventing plastic pollution is a human rights issue.

“The short-film was created to deepen engagement and catalyse long-lasting behaviour change amongst the South-East Asian youth audience to take individual and collective action to end plastic pollution.”

— KAY VASEY, FOUNDER (MESHMINDS)

“We hope that this fun story can inspire audiences to be more mindful consumers to protect our planet.”

— SEAN LIN, PRODUCER (STUDIO BIRTHPLACE)

HELP US RAISE AWARENESS AND CATALYSE ACTION TO #BEATPLASTICPOLLUTION!

In 2021, UN Environment Programme and MeshMinds ran an online campaign called 100 Days to #BeatPlasticPollution, which was South-East Asia's first movement, led by regional sustainability advocates using an augmented reality toolkit, to combat the plastic pandemic that the region is facing.

The short-film was inspired by many sustainability advocates who have been driving awareness about plastic pollution and innovating methods to end the plastic crisis.

(PLASTIK) aims to help drive the UNEA 5.2 movement, where 175 member states have unanimously agreed to develop a legally binding agreement to end plastic pollution by the end of 2024.

"I don’t know why; it’s just maddening,

To see the world start crumbling down."

The audio track, "Just A Dream" which was featured in the short-film was specially commissioned by MeshMinds to further inspire sustainability advocates and to amplify the message of the film - act now to end plastic pollution; no turning back.

The track was composed by MKNK and performed by JSN.
